Open AI's valuation just got a 3X boost
The growth of OpenAI has been phenomenal since the launch of ChatGPT, and the thought process of Sam Altman has always been interesting, and now Thrive Capital is leading a share buyback for OpenAI, driving its valuation to at least $80 billion, a remarkable threefold increase in six months.
The estimate for the Global AI Market Size for 2023 is almost $165 Billion and OpenAI just got a valuation of almost $80 Billion, so that’s almost half of the pie which is really good for a company like OpenAI. Despite generating $28 million in revenue last year, OpenAI's current valuation is over 60 times its annualized revenue, which is basically a very good valuation for a startup company and this is reflecting significantly on investor confidence in its ability to secure substantial future funding rounds.
This substantial valuation showcases the strong investor belief in artificial intelligence, with ChatGPT's success underscoring the demand for AI. It also looks like it won’t be known anymore as a ‘startup’. The growth for this startup is super-exponential as we wrote about it a few weeks back about ChatGPT’s ARR turning $1 Billion.
News of the week:
Google Search's new feature enhances English speaking skills through AI-driven interactive practice. It may challenge language learning apps like Duolingo but success depends on its popularity.
OpenAI is expanding access to its latest text-to-image generator, DALL-E 3, to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise customers. OpenAI has implemented safety measures to ensure responsible usage.
OpenAI is cautious about releasing a tool to identify DALL-E 3-generated images due to reliability concerns and authenticity issues. The company is seeking input from artists and remains open to the possibility of detecting images from non-OpenAI generative tools in the future based on the tool's reception.

Alibaba and Tencent, along with other major Chinese investors, have invested 2.5 billion yuan ($342 million) in AI startup Zhipu, which is going to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT. This investment underscores the growing competition between the US and China in AI and its wide-ranging impact across industries and geopolitical relations.
Anthropic’s Cluade is now available in 95 countries. Its ability to chat with longer documents (up to 100k tokens) makes it much more useful at times. Here’s the list of all supported countries.
