Welcome to our weekly recap!
I hope you are doing well with your taxes (if not, we have the right post-savior for you below). Today, we’ve got some hot news for beginners and advanced AI users. We'll discuss a model you can sing to generate music, a huge Microsoft and OpenAI project (I mean $100 Billion huge!), and a few major announcements for ChatGPT.
Without further ado, let's get started!
Just in case you missed it, the other day we put together a bunch of useful AI Tools for dealing with finances. Some of them will be especially useful during tax season:

Stable Audio 2.0 Release
Stability AI, known for its image generation models, has released a significant update to its Stable Audio platform. The new version, labeled "2.0," creates high-quality full music tracks of up to 3 minutes. And that's not all, of course.
I should remind you that the first version of Stable Audio was released last fall. The previous model generated audio tracks up to 90 seconds and offered several additional tools for experimenting with music.
According to the developers, the main feature of the new model is that it allows you to create tracks that sound like actual songs, with an intro, main part, and finale. No more monotonous songs.
Moreover, while Stable Audio used to work only in text-to-audio format, users can now use the audio-to-audio tool. It sounds quite fun: to realize this feature, you can sing a beat with your voice and then convert it into an electronic guitar sound. This model also emphasizes sound effects better and can work in various styles.
The company's press release also states that Stable Audio 2.0 is trained on data from AudioSparx, which has a library of more than 800,000 audio files. Stability AI claims that AudioSparx artists have been allowed to opt out of having their material used to train the model.
Unlike Voice Engine, OpenAI's sound generation model which is only available to a select group of users, Stability AI has made Stable Audio free and publicly available through its website and soon through its API.
News like the release of Stable Audio 2.0 strikes me as particularly important in the context of discussing the development of AI. We've seen a lot of great models over the last few years, but they've typically worked with text or static images. But 2024 has changed everything. We've already seen Sora, announcements from Adobe, and now a new model from Stability AI. This year is a time for truly live AI content.

News Of The Week 🌍
Microsoft and OpenAI Build a $100B AI Supercomputer
According to The Information, Microsoft and OpenAI have teamed up for one of the most ambitious AI projects, called Stargate. The partners are working on a new AI supercomputer data center headquartered in the U.S. Insiders say Stargate will cost more than $100 billion.
People familiar with the project called it one of the world's largest and most advanced data centers. It covers several hundred acres of land and uses up to 5 gigawatts of power. Of the series of installations the companies plan to build over the next six years, Stargate has the largest scale, and it's considered crucial for OpenAI to train and utilize more advanced AI models.
Other details are almost non-existent, but here's another interesting fact from insiders: given its power needs, the companies have discussed using alternative power sources, including nuclear energy!
OpenAI Expands Its Custom Model Training Program
OpenAI is expanding a Custom Model program to help enterprise customers develop tailored generative AI models using its technology for specific use cases and applications. The enhancement will also open up opportunities for developers interested in deepening their control over fine-tuning the models and improving their performance.
OpenAI’s new iteration adds automated checkpoints for training models, a comparative playground for model evaluation, third-party integration for sharing fine-tuning data, quality assessment metrics, and a better management dashboard. You can learn more about new features by following this link.
ChatGPT No Longer Requires Sign-In
In addition, OpenAI no longer requires users to have an account to use the basic ChatGPT model. When you visit chat.openai.com, you’ll be dropped right into the chatbot conversation using the same model as logged-in users.
That sounds cool. Chatbots are becoming more accessible than ever before.
Opera Allows Users to Download and Use LLMs Locally
Web browser company Opera announced it will allow users to download and use large language models (LLMs) locally on their computers. This feature, initially launched within the Opera One developer stream, grants access to over 150 models spanning more than 50 families.
The list of models includes Llama, Gemma, and Vicuna. This solution is being introduced as part of Opera's AI Feature Drops Program, an initiative to provide early adopters with cutting-edge AI functionalities.
Former Snap AI Chief Develops Competitor for OpenAI's Sora
Alex Mashrabov, the former head of generative AI at Snap, launched Higgsfield AI, an AI-powered video creation and editing platform designed for personalized applications. Powered by a custom text-to-video model, Higgsfield’s first app, Diffuse, can generate videos from scratch or take a selfie and generate a clip starring that person.
The startup has already raised $8 million in seed funding led by Menlo Ventures.
If all goes well, it won't be long before we see a strong competitor for Sora. But only time will tell if Higgsfield can show such an impressive result.

Paid ChatGPT Users Can Now Use AI to Edit DALL-E Images
OpenAI announced that paid users can now edit AI-generated images using text prompts from within ChatGPT. In a demo shared on X, OpenAI revealed the new capability to add bows to a poodle's ears in an image created by DALL-E. The platform also allows people to choose the aspect ratio of the desired image and add styles, such as "motion blur" or "solarpunk."
More than 70% Startups of YCombinator’s 2024 Batch are Using AI
AI startups continue to gain the attention of major programs. YCombinator held a demo day to showcase a list of projects from the Winter 2024 program. According to YC’s official startup directory, the new cohort has 86 AI startups—nearly double the number from the Winter 2023 batch and close to triple the number from Winter 2021. That said, 187 companies (out of 247) mention AI in their presentations.
That's a whole bunch of projects. Should we dig into this list and tell you about the best AI startups?
