OpenAI connects ChatGPT to the internet, which now extends its functionality by granting it access to the web. This plugin now allows ChatGPT to draw data from all around the web to answer questions.
In 2023, AI has made significant progress, particularly with popular AI language models like ChatGPT. However, experts are now shifting their focus towards artificial general intelligence (AGI) which could lead to the development of AI systems that are as intelligent as, or even surpass humans in the future.
A team of Microsoft AI scientists published a research paper claiming that ChatGPT which powers Microsoft's now somewhat lobotomized Bing AI shows "sparks" of human-level intelligence, or artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Google has introduced BARD, its latest AI chatbot, as a new player in the market to compete against OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing Chat.

OpenAI connects ChatGPT to the internet
OpenAI has launched plugins for ChatGPT, which now allow the AI-powered chatbot to access third-party knowledge sources and databases, including the web, to answer various questions posed to it.
While this is an intriguing feature, OpenAI acknowledges the risks involved with a chatbot having web access, as demonstrated by previous experimental systems. Therefore, OpenAI will initially prioritize a small number of developers and subscribers to its premium ChatGPT Plus plan before rolling out larger-scale and API access.
By utilizing the Bing search API, the newly launched plugin fetches information from websites on the internet to formulate an answer, which ChatGPT then presents to the user. The chatbot acknowledges its sources in its response, detailing any websites it visited while crafting the answer.
