Hello and welcome to our weekly recap! Just to get something off of our chest - sorry for the typos in our last post. We were drinking too much coffee while writing about Pieter Levels.
But now let's unwrap news in AI from this week! Today we’re going to talk about Google Lumiere, which makes Pika seem boring, more Chrome AI features, the newest AI unicorn, scientists abandoning Google to work on the new AI start-ups, $1.2M ARR cases, and more! Without further ado, let's get started!

Google has launched a new artificial intelligence video model called Lumiere that it claims can create consistent, smooth and realistic movement across a full video clip.
According to Google, Lumiere utilizes unique architecture to generate a video's entire temporal duration in one go. Or, as the company put it, "We introduce a Space-Time U-Net architecture that generates the entire temporal duration of the video at once, through a single pass in the model. This is in contrast to existing video models which synthesize distant keyframes followed by temporal super-resolution—an approach that inherently makes global temporal consistency difficult to achieve."
Lumiere uses a "space-time" neural network to generate clips in a single pass, as opposed to other models that create distant keyframes.
Essentially, this avoids the ‘choppiness’ seen in other generations!
Now let's explore the features:
Lumiere can edit any specific portion of a video with a simple mask and prompt. It's always insane to see demos like this — the potential applications are endless
Using a single reference image, Lumiere can generate videos in the target style by utilizing fine-tuned text-to-image model weights. It can take a single image, learn its style, and then generate consistent videos from that style
Lumiere can not only generate videos from text prompts, but also directly from a still image
Lumiere can also create videos from text prompts, and edit and animate specific portions of still images.
Also Google added new AI features to Chrome! With the new Chrome release (M121), Google is rolling out three brand-new AI features.
Here’s a breakdown of the new features:
First, there's the Tab Organizer: Chrome’s new feature sort tabs for you with automatic smart groupings and even suggest names and emojis for easy identification. Tab organizer uses the page titles and URLs of open tabs in the active window to do this.
Next, AI-generated themes: Create your own vibe with generative AI wallpapers. Choose your mood, style, color, and subject, and voila – a personalized theme just for you. There’s no prompting, so the customization is still limited.
Help me write: The third feature is not there yet in Chrome. But we’ve seen this one. Right-click and select “help me write” to use AI to write. Just that it’ll work on every text-box on Chrome.
News Of The Week 🌍
Sam Altman is seeking billions from investors to establish a global network of semiconductor factories focused on producing AI chips. Sam wants AI to continue accelerating — and isn’t going to let major chip shortages stand in his way.
Adobe Research and Stanford University have introduced Act Anywhere, a generative model addressing the challenge of aligning video backgrounds with foreground subject motion in the film industry and visual effects field. This model automates the typically labour-intensive process by leveraging large-scale video diffusion models. It takes a sequence of foreground subject segmentation and a condition frame describing the desired scene as input, producing a realistic video with coherent foreground-background interactions.
ElevenLabs becomes the newest AI unicorn with $80 million Series B funding and releases Dubbing Studio . It's an editor where you can update translations, change the timing, and regenerate the dialogue until the accent and tone are just right!
