Google Launched Gemini, Its Long-Awaited Answer to ChatGPT, and failed?!
Google has officially launched Gemini, an AI model designed to work with text, images, and video. Described as "natively multimodal," Gemini was trained on diverse data, making it Google's largest and most capable AI model.
It is being ‘made’ into three sizes: Nano, Pro, and Ultra. While Ultra, the best model for complex tasks, will not be available until 2024, we already have a chance to try the first two. Nano is on-device and has two parameter sizes: 1.8B(Nano-1) and 3.25B(Nano-2). Android users will have a chance to use it in offline settings because of its 4-bit quantization and other hardware optimization.
Also, for proficiency part, it is good with multilingual tasks, including machine translation benchmarks (WMT 23, NTREX), summarization benchmarks (XLSum), and adaptation of widespread benchmarks (MGSM in 11 languages)
Furthermore, there’s the video demo below that on Twitter was described as “jaw-dropping.”
Let’s be honest at first sight this is impressive but is it real, huh?
However, not everything went so perfectly. Google confirmed that it is made by “using still image frames from the footage and prompting via text," so the company’s demo video, featuring a spoken conversation with Gemini as it identified drawings in real-time, was edited and did not involve an actually spoken prompt.
Whether it was a PR move or a presentation failure, Google still feels like an outsider in the AI competition.

Anthropic’s latest tactic to stop racist AI: Just ask it nicely.
Anthropic, a research group, is actively addressing biases of AI models used in finance and health, with a specific focus on categories such as race and gender. Employing explicit prompts, the researchers instructed the model to disregard specific demographic factors when making decisions. The result was a significant reduction in discriminatory outcomes.
