Google and Samsung have been working side by side. In the new presentation of Samsung Galaxy S24 another fun new feature was announced in conjunction with Google. The S24 will be getting Circle for Search, which does pretty much what it says on the tin. Circle a piece of text with a finger or S-Pen and you’ll trigger a Google search on the word. Google tends to launch these kinds of features on its own Pixel devices, so this is an interesting break from recent tradition.
The two companies have, however, been working closely on the software front over the past few years. That includes Google’s launch of a foldable version of Android, as well as Samsung’s long-awaited embrace of Wear OS on its Galaxy Watch devices. Here’s a demo of the new Circle to Search Feature:
Additionally, Samsung introduced more features for an upcoming S24 model, some of them include:
Chat Assist, which aims to rewrite messages in a more natural-sounding way. However, the current formal tone used by Chat Assist sounds robotic and needs more work to sound natural. If tone changes can be made in a natural way, it could prevent miscommunication.
Live Translate was another tool showcased at the event, which has the potential to ease language barriers during calls. However, the lag in its performance can cause confusion, disrupting conversations. Faster performance is critical for this tool to be truly effective.
Lastly, Note formatting aids can quickly structure text visually, and the tool has potential. However, the text summarization feature currently lacks nuance, with disjointed bullet points. If more coherence and insight can be added, this tool could become even more powerful.
And Google has announced that it will make its GenAI products more transparent and user-friendly by citing their sources, which will enable users to verify the accuracy of its answers. Although the Google Search Generative Experience will remain in Labs, the company will start rolling out generative AI advancements more widely as they become relevant, much like the multisearch results feature that is already available. This move is expected to make Google's AI-powered tools more accessible and helpful to users. This is what the new Google lens looks like:
Google is actively seeking partnerships to be associated with new AI features and be at the forefront of the AI revolution.

GPT-4 Turbo is now quietly rolling out for free in Microsoft Copilot The source code revealed a new rollout that grants select users free access to OpenAI’s most advanced model. Here’s how you can check if you have access:
1. Head to http://Copilot.microsoft.com
2. Check to see if you have access to GPT-4 Turbo by pressing Ctrl+U (or Cmd+option+U on Mac) to open the page's source code. Then hit Ctrl+F, and type 'gpt4t'. If it finds that term, you have access.
3. If you have it, you can now access larger context windows, better and quicker responses, and a more recent knowledge cutoff than GPT-4!
If you don't see gpt4t in the code, don't worry. The new features are being rolled out gradually, and you'll have access shortly!

We generally don’t want publishers’ data for training […] Some people want to partner with us, some don’t. We’d defend the lawsuit but rather have people say no to partnerships than sue us.
I am looking at a future where instead of artists deleting/restricting their styles in DallE, they get some economic benefit from being part of that ecosystem. We want the artist to say: “That’s awesome.”
My view of the world is that there are two important currencies in the future “intelligence” (compute) and “energy”. Meeting the energy requirements for AI will need a breakthrough and that will also be a step in solving climate-related issues.
I’ve not heard anything official about a partnership with Johnny (Ive). Speaking about Johnny, he has made computers very human-compatible again and again. OpenAI and the field (AI) haven’t been very good at it.
