OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-Image-1 API
A fresh update from OpenAI puts the multimodal image generator that drove a surge of user interest straight into developers’ hands. The new “gpt-image-1” arrives through the Images API, offers token-based pricing that works out to as little as two cents per low-quality image, and ships with built-in safety and provenance tools.
GPT-Image-1 is a model capable of generating diverse and customized images. Particularly, it accurately renders text and leverages world knowledge. The model supports style adjustments, object addition or removal, and background expansion.
Image Generation inside ChatGPT has been one of the most significant developments in the AI industry.
Here's a breakdown of what this feature can do:

Pricing, Limits & Data Policy
OpenAI prices access per token—$5 per million text tokens, $10 per million image input tokens, and $40 per million image output tokens. The company translates that to roughly $0.02 for a low-quality square image, $0.07 for medium, and $0.19 for high.
The API uses the same moderation stack found in ChatGPT. Developers may choose “auto” or “low” filtering for edge cases. Every output carries C2PA metadata so downstream platforms can flag AI-made assets. OpenAI also states that customer images and prompts stay out of future model training.
The model is accessible via OpenAI's Images API, with support for the Responses API forthcoming. You can also try it on the Playground.
The release pleased not only indi devs but also large companies.
Adobe has implemented the model in Firefly and Express, and Figma has incorporated it into Figma Design's cue-based generation and editing on canvas feature. In addition, Canva, GoDaddy, Instacart, Airtable, and others are already experimenting with branded content, logos, and product visuals.

Grok Vision Arrives on iPhone for Premium Users
xAI has pushed Grok Vision to the Grok iOS app, opening a camera view that lets the chatbot read signs, products, pages, and whole scenes in real time for Premium and Premium+ subscribers. Powered by the new Grok-1.5V multimodal model, the feature pairs text reasoning with image analysis and tops the RealWorldQA benchmark at 68.7 percent, ahead of Gemini Pro 1.5 (67.5 percent) and GPT-4V (61.4 percent).
Android support promised soon.
Perplexity Launches Voice Assistant on iOS
Perplexity has updated its iPhone app with a voice assistant, once Android-only, so Apple users can ask for emails, reservations, and rides with spoken queries. The assistant steers web search, calendar, OpenTable, Uber, and other services, and it stays active in the background as users switch apps.
Camera access and system alarms remain off-limits for now, yet the release plugs gaps that Siri will not fill until Apple’s own overhaul arrives next year.
